Aine – Irish Goddess of Sovereignty, Summer, and Radiant Desire
Aine (pronounced AWN-ya) is a beloved and enduring Goddesses of Irish tradition, a luminous presence whose myths weave together sovereignty, fertility, love, abundance, and the life-giving power of the Sun. Though often remembered as a Fairy Queen in later folklore, Aine's origins reach deep into the sacred landscape of ancient Ireland, where she was revered as a Goddess of the land itself and a guardian of prosperity.
Her primary seat of power is the hill of Knockainey in County Limerick, whose name derives from Cnoc Aine, "Aine's Hill." Villagers would carry torches around fields and livestock, invoking Aine's blessings for abundance and protection in the coming season.
Aine is not merely a Goddess of crops and sunlight. She is also a Goddess of desire, beauty, creativity, and personal sovereignty.
